Yet another botched trade deadline from Chuck Fletcher & the Philadelphia Flyers

I had no expectations coming into today and somehow I’m still enraged. After holding a press conference to announce they are selling players, the Flyers failed to sell anything meaningful while claiming it’s hard to get anything done.
The only deals made today were Zack MacEwen (to LA) and Patrick Brown (to OTT) for Brendan Lemieux, a 2024 5th, and a 2023 6th. All of the rumored veteran players that should’ve been sold will remain in Philadelphia for the season.
Discussions were heating up with the Detroit Red Wings in regards to JVR, but it was contingent on another deal Detroit was set to make which also fell through. Chuck Fletcher later claimed this was his only option, even though JVR was high on the trade bait boards for weeks. Amazing strategy.

Chuck Fletcher just isn’t a closer. Some GMs can close the deal and others can’t; it’s really that simple. He’s in front of a microphone admitting his part in our downfall with no sign of a hot seat under him.
Chuck Fletcher: “The market spoke and it wasn’t to be.”

Chuck Fletcher says he has been telling teams for days that JVR is a good player and he doesn’t understand why there was no interest.

Chuck Fletcher: “You guys are gonna beat this one up, oh my gosh.”

These are the quotes of a defeated man. A man who has failed to deliver on his false promises for years.
Claiming the market didn’t allow you to offload an expiring player with some value is ridiculous. It’s almost as ridiculous as waiting until a hour before the trade deadline for Detroit to double back, or being dead set on a 3rd round pick and up.
When I realized Chuck Fletcher was going to manage another deadline I thought at the very least he could sell like a flea market. The returns might’ve been underwhelming, but I really believed with the pressure in this market something was going to happen.
Shame on me.
Easily the best question of the press conference from @charlieo_conn.
Chuck deflects beautifully as he always does but at least he looked a little uncomfortable answering it. pic.twitter.com/FB1my6gpHn

“We want to get younger, we are a younger team this year”
That line doesn’t hit the same when you fail to offload any important veteran contracts. Yes we are younger this season, but that didn’t stop you from making desperate moves in an effort to win a couple more games. I have a hard time buying into this line from a general manager who refuses to even say the word rebuild.
He also overvalues all of his own players while refusing to trade them. Anyone who has the slightest bit of value is a superstar to him with an insane price tag. These are the same players who actively gotten us into this mess and may cost him his job.
I’m tired of seeing Provorov/Sanheim in the rumor mill every single year for nothing to happen. Chuck Fletcher has had them on the market for about three years now and still wants an overpay. He refuses to move anyone who may actually have value.
Just when you think it can’t get worse for this organization they surprise you. It’s kind of impressive how they keep managing to do it all this time. I’ve said all week there’s no benefit of the doubt to be had anymore and I stand by that. Does anybody have faith in his ability to make positive changes in the offseason?
They deserve all the toxicity they receive as they can’t even lose games correctly, let alone try to win them or make meaningful hockey trades/signings.
I expect Flyers fans everywhere are angry and rightfully so. A new low for an organization that’s already at its lowest.
