Sanders will be reunited with former Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley in Carolina. With the bond the two formed during Sanders’ first two seasons in the NFL, it’s safe to say Staley’s presence played a big factor in Sanders’ decision to head down south.
In 2022, Sanders had his best season to date. He racked up 1,269 rushing yards on 4.9 yards per carry while finding the end zone 11 times, earning his first Pro Bowl selection in the process. Despite his solid numbers, Sanders’ production tapered off towards the end of the season and he was essentially a non-factor in Super Bowl 57.
After the Eagles signed former Seahawks back Rashaad Penny, it was pretty obvious that Sanders’ career in Philadelphia was over. The team also re-signed RB Boston Scott to help round out the RB room.
Even though I’m content with a Penny-Scott-Gainwell backfield, seeing Sanders leave is still bittersweet. He openly pleaded for the team to retain him on social media throughout the offseason. But as we all know, Howie Roseman very rarely pays big money for running backs.
