Trea Turner Mic’d Up: ESPN couldn’t help themselves but to ask the newest member of the Phillies about cheesesteaks

The Philadelphia Phillies got swept in their opening series of the 2023 season by the Texas Rangers.
Last night, the Phillies were on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and if you watched, the entire broadcast (and game) was pretty miserable.
You had the ESPN crew interviewing Bryce Harper about the pitch clock, which Harper was not interested in at all as he watched his team lose yet again from the dugout.
You can read about that here >>
The cringe didn’t end there from ESPN as they also had Trea Turner mic’d up in the field, asking him about his favorite cheesesteak now that he plays in Philadelphia for the Phillies.
Much like the entire conversation regarding the pitch clock and any of the new rules in Major League Baseball this season, treating the national broadcast on ESPN like a Spring Training game to start Sunday Night Baseball was tough to watch.
Luckily, Trea Turner ended up making the play after telling ESPN about his cheesesteak preference. National broadcast crews need to find something else to talk about when it comes to Philadelphia and the athletes that play here. I imagine that every Phillies fan watching the broadcast last night and hearing them ask Turner about cheesesteaks all gave a collective eye roll.
Luckily, Turner still made a nice play after having ESPN annoy him while was trying to play the field.

Turner also knew that this was a home run the second the ball hit the bat.

Just miserable stuff here from the Phillies and the ESPN crew.
I completely understand that starting the season on the road in Texas is tough and there are 159 games to go but there’s no way the defending National League Champions should start off by getting swept by the Rangers.
Things won’t get any easier as they now head to the Bronx for a series against the Yankees. The Liberty Line will be in attendance with Phans of Philly and 300+ Phillies fans sitting in left field.
Make sure you book all of your future Philly sports travel plans with Phans of Philly. They do an incredible job and make the entire experience easy and fun for everyone.
See you tonight in the Bronx.
