Rob Thomson has the date that Bryce Harper will return

Phillies manager Rob Thomson jumped on The Morning Show on Sports Radio 94WIP this morning and talked all things Phillies, including Bryson Stott’s hot start, Nick Castellanos’ rise, and an update on Bryce Harper.
It was also announced this morning that Rob Thomson would be on DeCamara and Ritchie’s show every other Wednesday throughout the season to give updates on the Phillies, which should be pretty cool.
When the topic of Bryce Harper was brought up, Thomson gave a pretty interesting answer when talking about a return date.
Rob Thomson on Harper’s Return Date: “I do. I’m not going to tell you, but I have a date.”
Thomson knows what he’s doing here. Does he have a specific day in a specific month? Definitely not.
The Phillies are still waiting to clear Harper on the bases, as he’s been cleared already to take full swings on the field.
The biggest hurdle for Harper still remains sliding.
The Phillies are worried about Bryce Harper sliding into a base and completely rupturing his elbow, which would require another surgery and keep him out for another season at least.
The general consensus has been the very end of May into June but if I was a betting man, I would have this date circled on your calendars. The Phillies will return home on May 19th to face the Chicago Cubs after a six game road trip out west with stops in Colorado and San Francisco.

Harper will continue to take batting practice on a consistent basis, and once he’s cleared to slide, will most certainly do a quick rehab assignment and rejoin a team who could use a power bat in the 3-hole right now.
The Fightins go for the series win today at 4:05 EST with Zack Wheeler on the mound.
