Preview: Phillies kick off 7-game road trip, head to Cincinnati for a 4-game series

The Philadelphia Phillies begin a seven-game road trip tonight with the first four games against the Cincinnati Reds.
Phillies vs Reds: Starting Pitchers
- Bailey Falter (0-1, 2.60 ERA)
- Nick Lodolo (1-0, 1.50 ERA)
The Fightins struggled in their last meeting with Lodolo, striking out 12 times while only mustering up three hits against the 25-year old Reds’ pitcher. Luckily, the Phillies ended up winning that game thanks to a Bryson Stott walk off home run, but there was no damage done against Lodolo during the game.
Bailey Falter will get the start for the Phillies tonight in Cincy. Five days ago, he lasted just five innings while allowing four hits and just one earned run against the same team he will face tonight.
Phillies in need of a bounce back win
The Phillies will enter tonight with a 4-8 record and losers of two straight games to the Miami Marlins. Yesterday’s game was ugly, as the Phillies continued to play sloppy baseball in a 3-2 loss to the Fish.
It’s early for sure, but the Phillies need their core players like Kyle Schwarber and JT Realmuto to get things rolling.
The heart of the lineup continues to struggle as of late. Kyle Schwarber is down to a .188 AVG on the year, while JT Realmuto is barely hitting .200.
Schwarber and Realmuto have combined for 32 strikeouts to start the season.
Things are pretty miserable right now for the Phillies but they do have some positive news with Bryson Stott starting the season with a 12-game hitting streak.
Nick Castellanos has played significantly better than his debut season with the Phillies as well. Castellanos is now slashing .300/.404/.475 through the first 12 games of the season and has eight hits over the last five games. He’ll enter tonight tied for third on the team in RBI.
Alec Bohm has also been fantastic for the Phillies, entering tonight with a .388 AVG and a .966. OPS. Bohm has 15 hits over 45 at-bats with three home runs and 11 RBI.
Brandon Marsh, who Topper insists on platooning with Cristian Pache who can’t hit a baseball, will be held out of the lineup tonight. Marsh is batting .387 with a 1.280 OPS. He has 12 hits over 31 at-bats with two home runs and eight RBI on the season.
Phillies Starting Lineup
I certainly don’t like seeing Harrison or Pache playing but the Phillies lack depth due to injuries right now and really, things wouldn’t be so bad if they could get Schwarber and Realmuto going, which is basically inevitable.
Plus, we got news yesterday that Bryce Harper is “learning” how to play first base, which would definitely help solidify the infield while adding another bat to the lineup.
