WATCH: Cubs pitcher Drew Smyly loses perfect game bid in 8th inning in heartbreaking fashion

Cubs pitcher Drew Smyly had a perfect game going into the 8th inning against the Dodgers. Unfortunately, like so many other bids before, it was broken up on a totally ridiculous play.
Smyly collided with Yan Gomes trying to field a dribbler, and thus the perfect game was broken up:
Damn. I don’t even have words for this one.
Bids for perfection get broken up all the time, but this one is particularly embarrassing. It doesn’t get more little league than that play right there.
The look on the pitcher’s face is just brutal too. He can hardly process what happened, and neither can most baseball fans.
The worst part is, I don’t even know whose fault it is. Sure, the easy choice is the catcher, but he was hustling his ass off to make a play to keep his pitcher’s perfect game alive. Hardly a malicious offense.
Americans love finding someone to blame and ostracize, so the fact that this is truly just an unfortunate turn of events has left many feeling left with no true resolution.
As a result, I went out looking for a pariah, and I believe I’ve found one everyone can get behind: Bob Nightengale.

God dammit, Bob. You stupid fuck.
What an imperfect way to end a perfect game. That play should have been made by the pitcher. Feel free to subscribe and come take a look at my blog. Here is the link to my blog: https://sophiakd4.wordpress.com
