WATCH: Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni make the call to select Jalen Carter with the 9th pick in the draft

Night one of the 2023 NFL Draft was another Howie Roseman masterclass with the Philadelphia Eagles selecting both Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith with picks 9 and 30.
The Eagles, who were originally locked in with the 10th pick, traded up a slot with the Chicago Bears to ensure they got their guy Jalen Carter, who fell surprisingly far in the draft.
The expectations for Carter ahead of the draft was a trade-up around the top 5 for the Eagles, but with 3 QBs going in the top four, Carter was able to slip all the way down to Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Howie Roseman has now bolstered the Eagles’ defense to higher levels than NFL records.
After breaking the all-time sack record last season, the front office is determined to make this defensive line and pass rush even better after an unfortunate performance in Super Bowl LVII.
Jalen Carter was the consensus No. 1 overall player in the draft before legal issues and maturity questions left teams skeptical about his transition to the pros.
However, he was arguably the most dominant player on Georgia’s championship defense, and Philadephia has done enough research to feel comfortable with the pick.
“Jalen Carter is a top-three player and arguably the best prospect in the 2023 class. His raw athleticism and physical strength are a dangerous combination for blockers to handle. The way Smart used Carter is not how I envision an NFL defensive coordinator deploying him.
Carter is a day-one starter and his ceiling is very high. Iron out some of the technical wrinkles in his game and this young man can skyrocket in the NFL as a disruptive force on the defensive line.” — via The Draft Network
