Preview: Phillies look to avoid getting swept in Los Angeles with Aaron Nola on the hill at 4:10 EST
The Philadelphia Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the mound looking to avoid getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers at 4:10 EST.
- Aaron Nola (2-2, 4.46 ERA)
- Gavin Stone (Major League Debut)
To say the very least, it’s been a rough two games for the Phillies out in Los Angeles.
They have been outscored 26-5 over the last 17 innings of baseball thanks to the collapse of their starting pitchers. Over the first two games, Taijuan Walker and Matt Strahm combined for just 6.2 innings and 12 earned runs allowed but hey, the offense wasn’t been much better either.
Bryce Harper made his return to the Phillies lineup last night and went 0-4 with three strikeouts, but if you’re looking for a silver lining, having Harper’s presence back in the dugout should be considered a blessing in itself.
The Phils logged just two hits total in last night’s game, with one of them being a homer to dead-center from Trea Turner.
Both games ended with a position player on the mound.
When Kody Clemens pitches two games in a row, you know the results aren’t going to be good.
Falling back to one game under .500, the Phillies will have a good opportunity today to get back in the win column with Gavin Stone making his Major League debut against what should be a pretty lethal Phillies lineup.
Phillies Starting Lineup
- The top of the lineup stays the same, while Alec Bohm slides up to the 6-slot.
- JT Realmuto gets the day off giving Garrett Stubbs the start behind home plate.
Aaron Nola vs. Gavin Stone
Aaron Nola is coming off his best start of the season down in Houston, logging eight innings of three-hit ball while striking out six. The swings and misses haven’t been there at a high clip compared to years past, but Nola is working through batters and getting more pop-outs and grounders.
Nola is 2-2 on the year with a 4.46 ERA. He’s struck out 28 total hitters and holds a 1.13 WHIP in six total starts.
Gavin Stone makes his Major League debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers today. Stone was a fifth-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft and has logged a 4.74 ERA in six starts in Triple-A this season.
