Defensive struggles continue to kill the Phillies, as a miscue on the right side of the infield triggered two crucial runs for the Giants in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kody Clemens lost the ball in the light, and Bryson Stott couldn’t get over to it fast enough, then accidentally kicked it all the way over to the first base fence.

Kyle Schwarber would crack his 10th homer of the year with two outs in the top of the 9th inning, but the Phillies couldn’t finish the 2-run rally, dropping the second game of the three-game set by a final score of 4-3.

Consistency continues to hold this Phillies team back, as they fall off a cliff every time they get some sort of momentum going. The issues are a mix of everything, but the wildly inconsistent offense is certainly in the driver’s seat at this moment in time.
