Preview: Taijuan Walker takes the mound at 3:45 EST as Phillies look to avoid sweep in San Francisco

The Philadelphia Phillies take the field today at 3:45 EST looking to avoid their fourth straight loss.
Starting Pitchers
- Taijuan Walker (3-2, 5.75 ERA)
- Ross Stripling (0-2, 7.14 ERA)
The last three games have been brutal for the Phillies’ offense, as they’ve scored just one run with runners in scoring position out of their last 34 chances. The team went 1-11 with RISP on Tuesday night and scored just three runs while logging ten hits on the night.
Zack Wheeler’s box score doesn’t resemble his outing last night, as Wheeler looked pretty good after one tough inning. He finished his night after six innings allowing four earned runs while striking out eight and walking just one.
Defensive struggles continue to kill the Phillies, as a miscue on the right side of the infield triggered two crucial runs for the Giants in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kody Clemens lost the ball in the light, and Bryson Stott couldn’t get over to it fast enough, then accidentally kicked it all the way over to the first base fence.
Kyle Schwarber would crack his 10th homer of the year with two outs in the top of the 9th inning, but the Phillies couldn’t finish the 2-run rally, dropping the second game of the three-game set by a final score of 4-3.
Consistency continues to hold this Phillies team back, as they fall off a cliff every time they get some sort of momentum going. The issues are a mix of everything, but the wildly inconsistent offense is certainly in the driver’s seat at this moment in time.
Phillies Last 18 Games
- 4 Wins in a Row
- 6 Losses in a Row
- 5 Wins in a Row
- 3 Losses in a Row
The Fightins have a good chance to get back in the win column today against Ross Stripling, who has been absolutely brutal for San Fran to start the season. Taijuan Walker looks to build off a good start out at Coors Field back on Friday where he went six innings, allowing just three earned runs.
If I had to guess? The Phillies will probably make Ross Stripling look like Nolan Ryan Jr. today.
