Rubber Match: Struggling Phillies face tough task with Zac Gallen on the mound at 1:05

The Philadelphia Phillies take the field today at 1:05 EST in hopes of avoiding a series sweep vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Starting Pitchers
- Zac Gallen (6-2, 2.95 ERA)
- Ranger Suarez (0-1, 10.50 ERA)
Another brutal loss occurred on Tuesday night, as the Phillies’ offense crumbled under pressure again in big moments, dropping their second-consecutive game by a final score of 4-3.
Alec Bohm was the only Phillie with a hit with RISP last night, while Bryson Stott, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber went a combined 0/12 at the plate.
The Diamondbacks are a young, scrappy team, and it seems the Phillies may have underestimated what they can do coming into this series. Two extremely hittable pitchers took the hill for Arizona through the first two games, and they put up a combined six runs in 18 innings.
Now the Phillies get New Jersey-native Zac Gallen, who is my favorite for NL Cy Young at this moment in time. The Phillies are really starting to fall into a hole, and although we know the season “truly” doesn’t start until June 1st, losing two to the DBacks didn’t help their record, especially with the next few series’ coming up.
- 1 vs. DBacks (Today)
- 4 @ Atlanta Braves
- 3 @ New York Mets
The Phils fell back to four games under .500 after last night, sitting at 22-26 on the year and trailing the Atlanta Braves by seven games in the NL East.
Phillies Starting Lineup
Brandon Marsh returns to the lineup after being announced as day-to-day on Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation. Kody Clemens slots into the 6-hole, making his fourth start in a row. JT Realmuto gets the matinee off.
Zac Gallen vs. Ranger Suarez
Zac Gallen takes the hill for the DBacks today, looking to continue his Cy Young season. Gallen holds a 6-2 record on the year with a 2.95 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 61 total innings.
Although Gallen has been fantastic, he’s been pretty brutal on the road, holding a 1-2 record on the year with a 5.88 ERA and just 25 Ks. Gallen has pitched out of his mind at Chase Field, but keep an eye out today for his road struggles.
Ranger Suarez makes his third start of the season and hopes today is better than his first two. Suarez has gone just six total innings in two starts since returning, allowing 12 hits and seven earned runs while striking out eight and walking four.
Suarez is 0-1 on the year with a 10.50 ERA and 8 total strikeouts while holding a whopping 2.67 WHIP.

I think while yes this will be a tough task for the Phillies, I also think the Phillies can beat the Diamondbacks. They have a lot of players with a lot of talent. I really hope the Phillies will win today against the Diamondbacks!! They need to win!! I wish Zach Gallen was on the Phillies. Please feel free to come subscribe to my blog.
