WATCH: Elly De La Cruz destroyed a home run and gave the Washington Nationals the perfect reaction after they asked umpires to check his bat earlier in the game

Elly De La Cruz has been nothing short of amazing since making his Major League Baseball debut with the Cincinnati Reds just over a month ago.
The Reds, who have found new life with their young pool of talent getting called up to the big leagues, are now 48-39 on the season and in first place in the NL Central. They have won seven out of their last 10 games.
Elly De La Cruz is batting .318 with 35 hits, 4 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 25 runs scored over 26 games this season with the Reds. During yesterday’s game against the Washington Nationals, umpire Davey Martinez stopped the game to do a bat-check on De La Cruz.Â
Elly De La Cruz Bat Check
It turns out, the knob on De La Cruz’s bat knob is simply a plastic cover over an analytical sensor that’s used mainly in the minor leagues to track all different kinds of data.Â
Shoutout to this guy Todd Robinson for the clarification and Kristin for asking the hard hitting follow up questions.Â

After the game, crew chief Adrian Johnson said Martinez pointed out the knob cover to the umpires. Johnson said they checked with the league office, but it took a while to get a response.
“We had to continue to play, to keep the game going,” he said. “They finally got back to us before his next at-bat and said that the attachment was approved. So, he played the rest of the game with the attachment on the bat.” via ESPN
In the fifth inning, De La Cruz then murdered a 455-foot home run and gave the perfect reaction to the umpire and Washington Nationals dugout about his baseball bat, pointing at it and asking if they would like to check it again.

Sick.
The Cincinnati Reds have been a dumpster fire for YEARS and to have them be good again this season, backed by a young superstar in De La Cruz has been fun to watch.Â
De La Cruz added two doubles and a run scored after the home run and the Reds beat the Nats 9-2 marking their third straight win against Washington.
For those complaining about De La Cruz celebration, I would advise against it. The kid is electric and after respectfully sitting through a five-minute delay about his bat, he took matters into his own hands and smashed a home run.
You have to respect that.
