Jordan Matthews throws shade at CJ Gardner-Johnson in message to Eagles fans

As a sports town, Philadelphia’s long-standing reputation for being passionate yet unforgiving can rub players the wrong way.

Former Eagles safety CJ Gardner-Johnson recently voiced his displeasure for Philly fans, labeling them as ‘obnoxious’ while stating they were his least favorite thing about the city. CJGJ isn’t lying here — we can certainly be obnoxious (plus his car got stolen during the playoffs), but he was universally loved by most.

Garder-Johnson is likely still bitter about how free agency turned out and trying to provoke a fanbase that showed him nothing but support. While Philadelphia isn’t for everyone, many players, including former WR Jordan Matthews, have expressed appreciation for their Eagles tenures.

Matthews was drafted by Philly in 2014, serving as their No. 1 pass-catcher for multiple years. Across his first three seasons, Matthews caught 225 passes for 2,673 yards and 19 TDs.

He was traded to Buffalo in 2017 and returned to the Eagles one year later, appearing in 14 games and catching a touchdown from Nick Foles in the Divisional Round of the postseason.

Things weren’t always easy for Matthews, but he understood what football meant to Philadelphia and didn’t take business decisions personally.

CJGJ could learn a thing or two.
