WATCH: D-Backs’ Slade Cecconi earns first career strikeout in unbelievable fashion, as catcher Jose Herrera somehow catches baseball

Arizona Diamondbacks rookie pitcher Slade Cecconi recorded his first Major League Baseball strikeout last night in the most bizarre fashion.
Cecconi made his MLB debut last night in the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. He allowed two runs over 4.2 innings of work and his first strikeout of his career was certainly one he’ll remember.
With LaMonte Wade Jr at the plate in the bottom of the first inning, Cecconi threw a 3-2 fastball up and inside of Wade. Obviously, that was a ball and the umpire just had to determine whether or not the pitch hit Wade, which they ruled it did not.
It did however, hit Wade’s bat, with the baseball landing directly in D-Back’s catcher Jose Herrera’s nuts, which he somehow held onto, ruling the at-bat a foul tip strikeout for Cecconi.

Not sure if I’ve ever seen that before? Hell of a nut grab by Herrera.
NL Wild Card Standings
Milwaukee lost last night and dropped to 3-7 over their last 10 games. They are now tied with the Marlins for the third and final NL Wild Card spot.
The San Francisco Giants, who beat the D-Backs last night, are still in first. The Phillies hold onto the second spot by half game after losing a very winnable game last night in Miami.

Outside looking in, you have the D-Backs, who dropped to 3-7 over their last 10 games with last night’s loss and the Cubs, who are 8-2 over their last 10 and winners of two straight.
As for the Phillies, Michael Lorenzen will make his debut today at 12:10PM against Johnny Cueto for the Miami Marlins.
