A look at the Eagles first ‘official’ depth chart ahead of Preseason Week 1

With the Eagles preseason opener just hours away, the team dropped their first ‘official’ depth chart of the year.
Now, it’s important to remember that this depth chart will undergo numerous changes from now until the start of the regular season. The Eagles still have four join practices and three preseason game to go, not to mention they have to cut down the roster from 90 to 53.
Most of the starting positions are no brainers; me or you could have put that together. As for the young guys who are vying for a roster spot, their position on the depth chart probably doesn’t matter a whole lot.
Nevertheless, giving the first depth chart a look is always fun, especially if you’re a football junky like myself.

Notes
- So the Eagles have five RB1’s on the roster apparently. Pretty wild move for the team to list five backs as starters, but not all that surprising if you’ve followed the team for the past few years. Really excited to see what Gainwell can do with an increased role. Also anxious to see what Trey Sermon has in store. It kind of feels like he may end up with a roster spot.
- I’m hoping one of the backup tight ends really steps up this season to provide another weapon for the Eagles offense. My guess is it’ll be second-year man Grant Calcaterra. He’s a below average blocker, but if he reaches his potential, he’s a more than viable receiving threat.
- It’s starting to seem like Cam Jurgens has the Eagles RG starting job locked up, but I still want to see him in game action with the other starting lineman. Wouldn’t mind seeing Steen get some run with the first team as well.
- Defensively, the former Bulldogs should get a lot of playing time Saturday night. And I’m sure most of them will get run with the first team.
- Linebacker is the most uncertain position on the Eagles roster. I’m anxious to see all of them play. I need to see how Dean quarterbacks the defense, if the Christian Elliss offseason hype is forreal, and the two new guys, Myles Jack and Zach Cunningham. Elliss is probably the most intriguing of the bunch, and it look like he’ll get a lot of time with the first team against Baltimore.
- Really excited to see what some of these young Eagles corners can do. They’ve all made plays throughout camp and there seems to be a ton of potential there.
- At safety, is that K’Von Wallace with the ones? A little surprised there, but per reports out of camp, he’s done pretty well so far. I wonder if that’ll stick once the regular season begins.
