Trea Turner walks it off, Phillies extend NL Wild Card lead following 4-3 win over the Giants

Trea Turner ripped a walk-off two-run single last night at Citizens Bank Park as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Francisco Giants 4–3.
Taijuan Walker pitched five innings last night, allowing six hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks while striking out seven. The Phillies then handed the game over to what should be their postseason bullpen in Seranthony Dominguez, Jose Alvarado, Gregory Soto, and Craig Kimbrel.
The bullpen tossed four innings, allowing two hits, zero runs, and a walk while striking out five.
Phillies Bullpen vs Giants
- Seranthony Dominguez: 1.0 IP, BB
- Jose Alvarado: 1.0 IP, BB, 2 K
- Gregory Soto: 1.0 IP, H, 2 K
- Craig Kimbrel (W, 7-3): 1.0 IP, H, K
Bryce Harper got the Phillies on the board early after Walker allowed a run in the top of the first, hitting a line-drive go-ahead 2-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to put the Phillies up 2-1.
Bryce Harper Go-Ahead 2-Run Home Run
Heat Check: Bryce Harper has now homered in 4 of the last 6 games. He’s batting .324 with 23 hits, 6 homers, 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored in 19 games this August.
The Giants would strike back, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning, which gave them a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Bryson Stott was hit by a pitch to put a man on first. Brandon Marsh then singled on a pinch-hit ground ball to right field and stole second, putting runners on second and third for Kyle Schwarber. Giants closer Camilo Doval intentionally walked Schwarber to load the bases.
The stage was then set for Trea Turner, who delivered a walk-off 2 RBI single that was deflected by Doval into right-centerfield, scoring Stott and Marsh and ending the ball game.
Trea Turner Walk-Off
Trea Turner has finally arrived to Philadelphia in the month of August. The Phillies’ shortstop is batting .300 with 24 hits, 4 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 12 runs scored in 20 games this month.
Of course, the headlines you’ll see are his numbers since the “ovations” which is totally fine with me. We can gloss over the Phillies record since June 1st or the fact that Trea Turner was a career .300 hitter entering this season and it was only a matter of time before he came alive at the plate.
I honestly don’t care as long as the Phillies keep winning baseball games.
Turner is batting .353 (24-68) with six doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs, and a 1.007 OPS in 17 games since Phillies fans at Citizens Bank Park gave him multiple standing ovations on August 4th.
Phillies Offense Last Night

- Bryce Harper: 2-3, 2 RBI, BB, R
- JT Realmuto: 1-4, K
- Bryson Stott: 2-3, R
- Brandon Marsh (PH-CF): 1-1, R
