Tyrese Maxey: ‘Not our first rodeo’ dealing with James Harden, disgruntled teammates

Tyrese Maxey addressed the ongoing James Harden situation on a recent episode of his podcast, Maxey on the Mic.
In 2021, right after Maxey’s rookie season, Ben Simmons bailed on the city of Philadelphia and his Sixers’ teammates. As we all know, Daryl Morey refused to let Simmons walk for nothing and Ben remained on the Sixers’ roster until the February 2022 trade deadline.
That of course, led Simmons to be dealt to Brooklyn for James Harden, who coincidentally is now pulling the same move that Ben Simmons pulled just two years ago.
The good news, is that rising superstar Tyrese Maxey doesn’t really let all of the drama get to him.

My current — still current — teammate one of my good friends, a brother, a mentor on my team James Harden’s situation. Honestly, for myself personally, I mean of course I’m watching it because I’m not gonna sit here and say I didn’t see any of it. I’m not gonna sit there and say I don’t get on social media. I’m not gonna sit here and tell that lie. I saw it. It’s just interesting. I will say this about the situation though, to each his own. James is a professional. He’s doing something for a reason. You just have to sit back and kind of understand what he’s doing as a friend, but then as a teammate and as someone a part of the organization that I’m with right now. You have to prepare for whether James is going to be there or not going to be there and that’s just that’s just the nature of it. It really just the nature of it and it happens.
It’s crazy to say this, but it’s not our first rodeo (Ben Simmons) honestly, you know, that’s funny to say but I mean, it’s a life and James is his own individual. He’s able to do whatever he pleases. I’m just honest, like I said, I’m prepared right now to play with him or without him and that’s just the business side of it. There’s no love lost. I love James to death. If he decided he was going to come back and play with us, I think there’s nobody in this organization that would be upset about that, but you just have to understand what he’s going through and pray for him as a brother.
It is beyond crazy that the Philadelphia 76ers are dealing with another situation like this again this summer. For whatever reason, this organization can’t get it’s shit together and as fans, were left with a drama-filled summer while every other NBA team seemingly manages to avoid these types of issues.
I really don’t see a situation in which James Harden is playing for the Sixers next season. If he does, then he’s just going to be a miserable mess and things will continue to get worse as the season progresses.
Regardless, the Sixers will definitely need Tyrese Maxey to elevate his game to the next level with or without Harden but for now, let’s all just focus on the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles seasons.
We’ll worry about the Sixers (or lack thereof) around Christmas.
