NFL Cannabis Update: HHC could serve as an alternative to player’s injury treatment

If athletes could treat their injuries with medical marijuana and have it hidden from drug testing, everyone would do it, right?
HHC could be the solution to avoid league fines
During the 2021 offseason, the NFL and the NFL Players Association agreed on changes to the league’s marijuana policy. Players now are only required to test for marijuana once per year at the start of training camp. Players that fail the test are subject to a fine, but not the lengthy suspension they faced in the past.
While that’s certainly an improvement, players are still getting fined for testing positive for marijuana. According to Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, between 50 and 80 percent of NFL players smoke marijuana, and thanks to the league’s more permissive policy that went into effect in 2021, it’s simple for players to start using it in the offseason and stop before testing begins.
In an interview, Kelce did with Vanity Fair, he estimated that around 50-80% of the NFL players in the league use cannabis. “If you just stop in the middle of July, you’re fine,” he told Vanity Fair. “A lot of guys stop a week before and they still pass because everybody’s working out in the heat and sweating their tail off. Nobody’s really getting hit for it anymore.” – SB Nation

Alternative Options
With states approving the recreational use of marijuana, while other states (PA) offer it for medicinal use only, using cannabis is still not accepted at a federal level or really in any professional sports league, there are still plenty of alternative cannabis options that athlete’s can use.
Contrary to delta-8 and THC, HHC is rumored to typically not test positive on drug testing. Despite this, there is no concrete proof that HHC does not appear on a marijuana drug test — but it’s a start.
So what’s the difference between HHC and the more widely known THC?
When hydrogen molecules were added to delta-9, HHC was found. The hydrogenation of THC produces Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC). In the scientific world, hydrogenation is frequently employed; it is how we turn vegetable oil into margarine.
While THC originally came from conventional cannabis, the cannabinoid is now commonly produced through a method that starts with hemp. Congress legalized this low-THC cannabis plant on a national level in the 2018 agricultural bill. Consuming HHC is a terrific method to experience hemp’s euphoric effects without becoming as anxious as one could when smoking traditional marijuana.
This means athletes could use it for treatment without the intense effects. Many users have cited pain relief and relaxation when ingesting HHC while still being able to complete everyday tasks.
The HHC sector is growing rapidly, frequently taken as HHC gummies or in the form of HHC carts. If you were unaware of the product prior to reading this post, a friend will most likely soon provide you with a first-hand HHC testimonial.
HHC is a game-changer in the cannabis market and could soon make its way into sports.
