Draymond Green holding Rudy Gobert in a headlock

Draymond Green puts Rudy Gobert in a headlock during wild on-court scuffle

Draymond Green just can’t seem to help himself sometimes. Early in the first quarter of a matchup against the Timberwolves, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels got into it after getting tangled up on a fast break. In typical fashion, the Warriors enforcer and part-time birthday clown used the tussle as an excuse to put Rudy Gobert in a headlock.

When Gobert came in to help break up the fight, Draymond Green saw his chance and wasted no time taking it:

When I first saw this clip, I thought it was the fourth quarter of a hotly-contested matchup. Upon further investigation, it became clear this all transpired before a basket was even scored in the first quarter.

Normally, I’d say this is a ridiculous act from Green and that he’s a fake tough guy jackass. This is not one of those times.

While it’s a bit surprising, you have to keep in mind that this isn’t just a regular game. It’s an IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT game. It just means more, and if you don’t get that, I don’t know what else I can say to you.

Obviously, such a momentous game got Draymond Green’s juices flowing a little extra. Either that or the In-Season Tournament court was so damaging to his senses it sent him into a fit of rage. Both are totally acceptable justifications in my eyes.

Green did end up getting ejected, posting a stat line of 2 rebounds in 1 minute played. Legendary efficiency.

Of course, like any journalistic outlet, we have to hear both sides of the story. Here’s the incident from the Minnesota local broadcast’s point of view (as well as some sweet new angles).

Okay, on second thought, maybe putting a guy in a headlock during an NBA game isn’t exactly the cool thing to do. My bad, I totally misread the situation. Draymond is off his rocker.

The man saw two guys fighting and swooped in to choke out the first person he saw. He turned himself into the story of a fight he wasn’t even headlining. Only he could pull that off.

What sealed this realization for me was a combination of watching the footage on loop at least 15 times, laughing my ass off, and seeing Steph Curry’s face when it all went down. Just look at this dude. He has no idea what the hell his teammate’s doing.

Funnily enough, Gobert isn’t the first Timberwolf to get put into a headlock in recent years. His teammate Karl Anthony-Towns got absolutely bitched by Ben Simmons in 2019.

KAT got into it with Embiid during a transition play leaving the two of them alone on one side of the court. Once people noticed what was going on, Simmons came in like a missile and took the Minnesota big man down with ease.

It definitely was a worse look for KAT, though, because he wound up pinned to the hardwood with Simmons ready to keep him there until he tapped out. He’s lucky Ben pulled him off of Embiid, though, because if he left it as a 1-on-1 fight, KAT would have a dent in his skull the size of Cameroon.
