Scott Hanson after evacuating

Scott Hanson does flawless play-by-play commentary during NFL RedZone studio evacuation

NFL RedZone’s Scott Hanson is a broadcasting legend. Nothing had ever stood in his way to deliver us eight hours of commercial-free football every Sunday, at least, that was, until this week.

Scott Hanson was forced to evacuate NFL RedZone studios, but not after giving flawless play-by-play commentary of the situation:

I wasn’t able to catch the situation live because I was locked in on CBS watching the Philadelphia Eagles move to 10-1. That being said, I was monitoring the situation very closely and couldn’t be more impressed.

First of all, Hanson literally does not flinch. If you were slightly zoned out and on your phone during the beginning of that clip, you probably wouldn’t notice anything was amiss until the alarm started blaring.

We talk a lot about pocket presence when evaluating quarterbacks, and it’s high time we start using it with broadcasters too. Hanson recognized the pressure of the evacuation, stepped up in the pocket to provide a succinct summary of what was happening, and stood firm to deliver a perfect segue into the on-field action before stepping away from his desk.

“…and here is 3rd and 13 for the Bills.”

Chills. Absolute chills.

But wait, Scott Hanson wasn’t finished just yet. With the alarms still going off overhead, he went back into the breach to share inspiring words as well as the Top 5 Plays of the Day.

Scott Hanson never ceases to amaze me. He shrugged off sirens like a Londoner during The Blitz while quoting an old Chinese proverb. He was born for this gig.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
