Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid go off on officiating crew after critical offsides penalty erases go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes of 20-17 loss to Buffalo Bills

Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid went off on officials after chaos unfolded at Arrowhead Stadium last night in the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Buffalo Bills kicked a field goal to take the lead with just under two minutes left to play in regulation as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs took the field looking for a game-winning touchdown or at the very least, a field goal to send the game into overtime.

The Chiefs managed to move the ball down the field and on second-and-10 from the Buffalo 49-yard line, Mahomes completed a pass downfield to Travis Kelce.

Kelce managed to avoid a few defenders before throwing a lateral pass to wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who caught the football and ran the ball 24 yards into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown.

Flag on the play.

On what appeared to be a touchdown, the officiating crew littered the football field with yellow flags due to an offsides penalty on Kadarius Toney!

Following the penalty, Mahomes tossed three consecutive incompletions and the Chiefs turned the ball over on downs which resulted in a loss for Kansas City. After the game, Patrick Mahomes was PISSED on the sidelines and was screaming at officials while being held back by his teammates.

Patrick Mahomes Postgame Press Conference

“It’s obviously tough to swallow. … I know as fans, you want to see the guys on the field decide the game. … There was no warning throughout the entire game, and then you wait until there’s a minute left to make a call like that? It’s tough, man. Loss for words…”

Andy Reid Calls Offsides Penalty “Embarrassing” for the NFL

“Very disappointed that it ended the way it did. … Normally I get a warning before something like that happens in a big game. A bit embarrassing in the NFL for that to take place..”

Kansas City is now 8-5 on the season and has lost three out of their last four games. At Arrowhead Stadium, they are just 4-3. The offsides call was pretty weak, even more so at that point in the game but that really doesn’t excuse Mahome’s overall performance. He was just 25-for-43 with 271 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
