Patrick Mahomes inadvertently admits Eagles should have won Super Bowl 57 during his referee temper tantrum

A lot of people, including myself, lost a great deal of respect for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Sunday night.

If you live under a rock and are unaware of what Mahomes did following his team’s loss to Buffalo, here’s a brief rundown. Kansas City’s go ahead touchdown with 1:25 left in the game got waved off by an offensive offside penalty on Kadarius Toney. As you can see, he was clearly offsides.

After the penalty was called, Patrick Mahomes had a complete meltdown. The man legitimately looked like he was going to cry pacing up and down the Chiefs sideline. He threw his helmet off and proceeded to charge the refs, pushing through his teammates with tears rolling down his face.

Patrick Mahomes, franchise crybaby

Once the game was settled and the Bills got the W, Patrick Mahomes went to shake Josh Allen’s hand, but not before telling him that, “That was the worst call I’ve ever seen.” Like Allen was supposed to feel sympathy for the guy or something. Very strange behavior.

But it didn’t stop there. During Patrick Mahomes’ press conference, he went on a tirade against NFL officiating, saying that in that specific situation, the refs just shouldn’t have called the penalty because of how ‘great’ the play was. He didn’t argue that Toney wasn’t offsides because he clearly was. No, Mahomes just thinks officials shouldn’t call penalties in crucial situations that can alter the outcome of the game.

Here’s his full quote: “You want to see the guys on the field decide the game. It’s call the man, in that moment? You wait until there’s a minute left in the game to make a call like that? Loss for words.”

Hm. Very interesting take you have there, Patrick.

You see, based on THAT logic, your team shouldn’t have won Super Bowl 57 against our Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City got bailed out by a very ticky-tacky holding call on James Bradberry in the waning minutes of the game, giving Kansas City an automatic first down and essentially sealing the game. Patrick Mahomes didn’t complain about that one, though. In fact, he actually played a significant role in the flag getting thrown. If it wasn’t for his immediate point and scream routine, who knows, maybe the official keeps that yellow handkerchief in his pocket.

At least with Bradberry penalty, you could actually argue whether or not that was a penalty. In the Toney instance, you can’t. And that’s why no one, including Patrick Mahomes, has tried to defend Toney.

Here’s the thing – no one would argue that NFL officiating is good. Or even up to par, for that matter. But the bottom line is, Mahomes has benefited numerous times from no-calls or penalties against the opposing team in inopportune moments. No one is going to feel bad for you. You’re the best quarterback in the NFL. 9 times out of 10, you’re going to get the benefit of the doubt from the officials. But now that you’ve found yourself on the losing end of it, now it’s an issue we should all care deeply about. When in reality, your frustration should be directed towards the player who has let your team down numerous times throughout the year. Or at the fact that you don’t have any reliable pass catchers outside of Travis Kelce.

I don’t think any Eagles fan was pleased with the way Sunday night’s game was officiated either. But if you listened to sports talk radio at all today, you heard nearly every host and caller point to the team’s deficiencies, not to the horrible officiating. When us scumbag Eagles fans have more accountability for our team than you – the unquestioned best quarterback in football – it might be time to look in the mirror and grow the fuck up.
