The biggest key to the Eagles turning their season around

It’s December, and the Philadelphia Eagles are facing a ton of adversity; mostly self-inflicted wounds.

Sound familiar? It wasn’t long ago when former franchise quarterback Carson Wentz went down with a torn ACL, and all hope was lost, at least from the fanbase. At the time, the Eagles were 11-2, and it felt like they wouldn’t be serious contenders with a backup quarterback.

Right now, the circumstances are far different, but the team is 10-4, and after losing three straight games, it feels like everyone has written the Eagles off. I’m not saying you are wrong to do that, I’m simply outlining the situation.

Jalen Hurts on the current state of the Eagles

Everyone is to blame for this, most notably Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni. Both are not living up to the standard that they set last year. Obviously, I could hand-pick players on both sides of the ball, coordinators, and even Howie Roseman. But at the end of the day, it falls on the franchise quarterback and the head coach to rally the team.

I started off this blog by comparing this to the 2017 situation. The positive is you have a healthy franchise QB this time around. And there’s no denying he needs to play much better if this team wants to make any noise in the postseason. However, this is the spot for Sirianni to prove to the organization and the fanbase why he’s the right coach for this team.

Doug Pederson was heavily criticized, like Sirianni, on his coaching decisions and everything that goes into formulating a game plan. But what made Pederson so special and beloved was his ability to rally a locker room, especially when hit with a heavy dose of adversity.

With that said, I don’t expect Sirianni to magically fix all of the Eagles’ problems, but what I do expect of him is to get the players and coaches back on track and on one page. Which, at this point, would be huge considering all the drama going on within the locker room as well as outside of it.

I do believe Sirianni has what it takes to get that accomplished. In his first year as the head coach of the Eagles, they started off 2-5, and everyone was calling for his job status. He delivered the well-known flower speech and that young team ended up rallying together and making the postseason. So, the coach has proven he can indeed do that.

Luckily for Nick, the Eagles have a very easy schedule for the rest of the regular season to get the team’s morale back up in time for the playoffs. Simply winning those games will probably not be enough to fully regain the fanbase’s faith; however, if they can do what they’re supposed to do and beat these teams comfortably, that would be a very favorable outcome for a team that has struggled to do that all year, regardless of the opponent.

Once again, this isn’t some X’s and O’s type of thing, this is a coach fulfilling the most crucial aspect of his job, and that is leading an entire football team. Finding ways to instill belief in anyone and everyone. Find a way to clean up the turnovers and lack of execution, calm your quarterback down, and get back to playing the style of football that had this team in the Super Bowl. Sure, we lost some players we had last year, as well as coordinators, but you still have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL.

I know Eagles fans are disgusted and embarrassed with the way this season has panned out. My suggestion is to just enjoy your time with your family and loved ones for the holidays. We all know that come Christmas day, you will be tuning into the Birds game, and who knows, maybe, just maybe, this team will begin to turn this thing around.
