Rat Poison: Philly podcast ‘Talkin’ 215′ throws bizarre ‘Eagles Ovation Party’ outside of the NovaCare Complex

A local Philadelphia Eagles podcast, “Talkin’ 215” made an announcement yesterday that they would be doing a live show outside of the NovaCare Complex this morning to give the Birds a “standing ovation” as they arrive.

Rat Poison: I was right, Trea Turner ovations damaged Philly Sports fans’ brains

Okay so here’s the thing. I got absolutely COOKED by Phillies fans on social media for criticizing the way they handled the “standing ovation” nonsense last summer. I thought the ovations were corny as hell and that Trea Turner, an elite veteran baseball player, would eventually turn things around regardless of how fans treated him. 

Of course, in that situation, I appeared to be wrong.

Trea Turner did need that boost from the fans to right the ship over the final months. Why Turner, a career .300 hitter needed fans support is a whole different issue in itself but that’s a conversation for another day. 

At the time, I did say that the Trea Turner ovations would ultimately turn the Philly Sports World upside down. That was correct because now, we have copycat fanbases attempting to do the same (lame) thing for other sports teams in Philly.

Talkin’ 215 Event was a cornball move but hey, it worked in their favor

Talkin’ 215 wasn’t exactly met with open arms like the ovation crowd we saw with Trea Turner. Just check their Twitter and you’ll see plenty of people in opposition to what they had planned.

Personally, I think it’s a cornball move and I wouldn’t be caught dead doing anything outside in the middle of winter, let alone standing outside the NovaCare Complex. We’ve seen more and more of that this year. It started with the tasteful “Run The Ball” signs and then we moved into cornball world with the guy who brought trash cans and now Talkin’ 215. 

I still refuse to become a fanbase that does this lame type of “show your support!” nonsense when our sports teams are playing like absolute dog shit. As I initially feared during the Trea Turner Ovations, this would slowly start turning this fanbase into a group that gives everyone ovations when shit is bad and the team sucks.

That appears to be the intent here and I don’t like any of it. 

I will say, whether the Talkin’ 215 gents did it because they really thought it would rally the team and send a positive message or because they wanted some extra eyes on their podcast, it definitely worked in their favor.

Note: It was definitely about the podcast. Obviously. Not fooling anyone fellas.

But hey! Credit where credit is due. Talkin’ 215 accomplished their goal.

Remember folks, “no press is bad press, baby.”

You have Crossing Broad, The Liberty Line, 94.1 WIP, and the Philadelphia Eagles all noticing what they had planned.

That’s a win in my book.

If I were the NovaCare Complex, I would shut this shit down immediately.

There’s no way they can continue to allow fans, podcasts, content creators, or really anyone make camp outside their facility. Sooner than later, there will be someone different outside looking for that content clout. Again, the first was fine but the next two have already jumped the shark. 

It has to be a lose-lose situation for the Eagles here. You either tell these dorks to kick rocks and get criticized or you support their little NovaCare events and also get criticized.
