Yoshinobu Yamamoto Dodgers

The Dodgers spent over ONE BILLION dollars on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, and Tyler Glasnow contracts this winter

Welp, turns out Japanese superstar pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be joining Shohei Ohtani in 2024 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Yamamoto agreed to a 12-year, $325 million contract with the Dodgers, which is the largest contract for a pitcher in Major League Baseball history, beating Gerrit Cole’s contract by $1 million.

In addition to the $325 million, the Dodgers will pay an additional $50.6 million in posting fees, basically bringing the total contract for Yamamoto to 12 years, $375 million.

Lord have mercy.

So basically, between Ohtani and Yamamoto, the Dodgers have now invested roughly ONE BILLION DOLLARS into two players this winter. Ohtani, signed a $700 million contract, which pretty much broke Major League Baseball since he will actually only get paid about $2 million a year, with the rest of his cash coming over the decade following the initial 10 year contract.

Now, you have Yamamoto bringing in a smooth $375 million AND they also signed former Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow to a 5 year, $136 million contract.

ONE BILLION for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, and Tyler Glasnow

So yeah, as you could imagine, baseball fans aren’t too happy with the Los Angeles Dodgers which I totally understand. Everyone now hates Dodgers and immediately branded them the new villains of Major League Baseball.

Honestly, if I’m a baseball fan, I would me more upset with my team for not spending money to construct the best possible baseball team every single year. Major League Baseball doesn’t have a salary cap and every team owner and organization certainly has the ability to spend money. The billionaire owners choose not to do that.

On top of that, we’re talking about the Los Angeles Dodgers. They are perennial postseason losers and outside of 2020 when they won a fraudulent “Mickey Mouse” World Series, they are typically bounced in the NLDS anyways.

The expectations for the Dodgers have now went from “The Dodgers need to win the World Series” to “The Dodgers need to win the World Series.”

Also, I know we are talking about two elite baseball players but apparently the Dodgers aren’t concerned that Shohei Ohtani is coming off surgery and will likely not pitch or play the outfield for at least the next two seasons. On top of that, you just tossed the bag at a pitcher that’s never thrown a single pitch in Major League Baseball.

Bold move. We’ll see how that plays out.

Assuming the Dodgers can get past the NLDS, nothing will bring me more joy than having the 92 win Philadelphia Phillies sending Ranger Suarez to the mound against any of these Dodgers pitchers and the magic that is Red October sends this “super team” to Cancun instead of the 2024 World Series.
