Tobias Harris Trade Rumors

Per Shams, the trade market for Tobias Harris is strong, with one Eastern Conference team rumored to be very interested ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline

According to Shams Charania, the Detroit Pistons are looking to trade for a 4-man and mentioned none other than Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris as one of the players to keep an eye on ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline.

Shams: Detroit Pistons interested in Tobias Harris

It was just a week ago when Shams appeared on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, where he mentioned Zach Lavine and OG Anunoby as players the Sixers have monitored.

The Lavine and Anunoby report wasn’t exactly breaking news. The Sixers have been long rumored to be targeting both players as potential trade options this season. This time around, Shams delivered on the trade buzz with the Detroit Pistons – Tobias Harris connection.

Note: The Detroit Pistons may not be the only team attempting to take Harris off the Sixers’ hands. Shams also mentioned the following when talking about the market for a player like Tobias Harris.

“A lot of teams are keeping an eye on him and seeing what exactly happens with him; the Sixers want to keep him around; they know how important he is.”

Tobias is on the final year of his massive five-year, $180 million contract that he signed back in 2019.

His $39.3 million expiring deal makes him an ideal salary filler if the Sixers do plan on pursuing a star come the trade deadline. While they do have several other players on expiring deals, Harris’ contract would be their easiest route in acquiring an official third star before the trade deadline.

I’m personally at the point now where I would do anything in my power to get Tobias Harris off the Sixers.

I’m so desperate that as I type this, I’m terrified it could hurt his trade value. Look, if you’re at all familiar with and what I’ve written about the Philadelphia 76ers, you know this guy has driven me NUTS over the last few years.

All things considered, Harris is considered a great guy in the locker room and away from the basketball court. He’s also a very solid NBA player. Unfortunately, most judgement on Harris goes hand-in-hand with his max contract. That’s honestly on Elton Brand and the 76ers’ front office, but it has created this dark cloud over Harris and serves as one of many dark reminders of how incompetent the front office has been over the past decade.

It also doesn’t help that Harris has to play in one of the toughest fanbases in the country that has dealt with disappointment year after year while rooting for the Sixers. It’s not just basketball either. Seriously, the Philadelphia Eagles are 11-4 and if you ask any Philly fan how they feel, they will tell you they are miserable.

To say the least, it’s a tough crowd, ya know?

But, if we’re talking potential fits, the Pistons make a ton of sense.

Tobias once played for that franchise so there is familiarity there. Most importantly, though, that team has lost all direction and just made NBA history last night, losing its 27th game in a row. So, if there were ever a team that needed a guy like Tobias Harris, it would be this Pistons squad.
