Are the Phillies and Nike dumb enough to make the 2024 City Connect uniform color scheme resemble the city flag?

Lots of chatter on Twitter today surrounding the Phillies’ 2024 Nike City Connect uniforms and a “report” that they will feature the Philadelphia flag color scheme. 

To be clear, I can’t find the report anywhere but according to this account, which everyone seems to be referencing, apparently Todd Zolecki released something that confirmed that the Phillies’ City Connect uniform will be released this Spring and share the same color scheme as the flag of Philadelphia.

To answer the question in the headline…yes. At the very least, people are dumb enough to believe a Tweet and say that Todd Zolecki reported on it when there’s no record of that actually happening but that’s beyond the point. The consensus is that no one wants the city’s flag to be the color scheme.

Heading into last season, the Phillies were one of the 16 teams in Major League Baseball that did not have a Nike City Connect alternate uniform.

With the Phillies finally getting a City Connect uniform in 2024, paired with Nike’s “4+1” rule which requires MLB teams to have a total of four uniforms and a City Connect uniform, it was announced earlier this month that the current Red jerseys would be getting the axe to make room for what very well could be Philadelphia Flag themed uniforms. 

That would be an absolute disaster.

Personally, I’ve had enough with the blue and yellow color scheme after seeing the Philadelphia Eagles wear it years back when Donovan McNabb was under center.

Not to mention, the flag desperately needs an update regardless and floating those colors out there yet again seems lazy and unoriginal. I was hoping that Nike would bring back an upgraded version of the red jerseys or hell, even an all-royal blue jersey but now, it looks like we’re stuck with light blue and yellow. Great. 

Alternate Options – Phillies 2024 Nike City Connect Jersey over the Philly Flag Color Scheme

• Royal Blue Uniforms
• Upgraded Red Uniforms
• All Maroon Uniforms
• Navy Blue Uniforms
• Phanatic Themed Uniforms

I literally wrote FIVE other options in like 10 seconds that would serve better than the blue and yellow color scheme. As a fan base, we must remain united and ensure that NO ONE purchase a blue and yellow City Connect jersey, if that’s actually what is rolled out in 2024 Spring Training.

I’m Still Not Convinced

I highly doubt the MLB would be dumb enough to roll out another light blue and yellow City Connect jersey. Just a quick google search shows the Boston and Milwaukee Jersey looking almost identical and a close variation out in Seattle. In the image below, you’ll also see a user mockup of a navy jersey which again, I’m BEGGING the Phillies to consider.
