Eagles News: Injury updates on WR DeVonta Smith, CB Avonte Maddox following loss to Arizona
Things can’t get much worse for the Philadelphia Eagles right now, but they’ve at least avoided a major injury to one of their star players.
WR DeVonta Smith suffered an injury in the 4th quarter of Sunday’s loss to Arizona while blocking on a screen pass to Kenneth Gainwell. The play resulted in a four-yard gain on 3rd-and-19.
Following the game, Smith was seen on crutches and in a walking boot.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Smith is dealing with a mild ankle sprain, an injury that isn’t considered to be serious.
He’ll undergo more testing later today.

Smith, 25, is in the midst of his second consecutive 1,000-yard season and has yet to miss a game in his young career. If the Eagles hope to make any noise in the postseason (doubtful), they’ll need Smitty as close to 100% as possible.
Slot CB Avonte Maddox made his first start since being placed on IR in Week 2, but his return may be short-lived. Per multiple reports, Maddox was seen heading into the x-ray room after the game, holding his left arm close to his body.
Injuries have been a constant hurdle for Maddox throughout his Eagles tenure, missing 19 games over the last two seasons. When healthy, the sixth-year player is one of the best nickels in football, but it may be time to move on.

Watch as the defender falls into the outside of his leg while he’s engaged blocking. Common mechanism for a high ankle and/or MCL injury. Hope it’s nothing, but he limped off the field pic.twitter.com/GXR9Ojl9Ua
