Cutter Gauthier traded to Anaheim after refusing to play for the Flyers, organization delivers masterclass in saying ‘F-ck You’, faith restored in the Flyers’ future
All hell broke loose last night on social media after the Philadelphia Flyers announced that they would be trading prospect Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a second round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Listen, I am well aware that the general fanbase surrounding the Flyers over the past few years has dwindled down to crumbs with myself included, but thankfully, The Liberty Yell boys have kept me updated on all things Flyers whether I wanted to know or not.
That being said, you’ll hear from TLY later on their podcast and I’m sure Derek will be writing some in-depth articles about the entire Cutter issue but right now, I’m going to fill you in on what could very well be the turning point for the Philadelphia Flyers organization moving forward.
Cutter Gauthier was drafted No. 5 overall in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. He just wrapped up a very impressive run at the World Junior Championship, notching 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists) in seven games to help guide the United States in taking home the gold medal.
Gather hasn’t even played in the NHL yet, but has been arguably the best college hockey player in the nation, notching 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) in 17 games for Boston College so far this season.
So obviously, the hype around Gauthier joining the Flyers was elevated to new levels following World Juniors and when the Flyers social media team announced the trade right as the puck was dropping in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, all hell broke loose.

We then learned that Danny Briere would be speaking with the media during the first intermission of the game between the Flyers and Pens. Briere confirmed rumors that dated back to last May that Cutter Gauthier did not want to play for the Philadelphia Flyers.
““It was a long time coming…It’s been going on for a while. We tried to give him space. We tried to get in touch with him many times; they would not communicate as far as the Gauthier side. So, at some point we had to make a decision and we thought with what happened just a few days ago (leading scorer at WJC), this was our time to probably get the highest value.”
Side Note: Danny B repeatedly saying that Cutter Gauthier was a left wing was so fucking awesome. Apparently Gauthier thinks he’s a center in the NHL. Not today, buddy.
Cutter Gauthier wouldn’t answer phone calls with Danny Briere or Keith Jones. They even went to Sweden to try to meet him at the World Juniors Championship, and Gauthier, this 19-year old kid who again, has never played a single game in the AHL or NHL, completely ignored them.
The nerve of this kid to have an entire fanbase rallying around him and rooting for him as he won a Gold Medal for Team USA only to find out that he literally refused to speak with Danny Briere, Keith Jones, Patrick Sharp and John LeClair is CRIMINAL behavior.
I will say, shout out to the Flyers organization for actually having a competent group of guys in place to address this issue head on last night. You really couldn’t have asked for a better group preventing this from spinning into a complete disaster.

Keith Jones: “You don’t want to be a Flyer? You’re not going to be a Flyer.”
Dan Hilferty: “”If you (don’t) want to be in Philadelphia so be it. Go somewhere else. We want someone that wants to be in this city. Wants to a part of the fabric of this city. Wants to be excited to put that uniform on every single day.”
John Tortorella: “I don’t know Cutter from a hole in the wall”
So why doesn’t Cutter Gauthier want to play hockey in Philly?
Great question. I saw a bunch of stuff online about something to do with Kevin Hayes influence and how the former Flyer basically did the same thing when he was drafted out of Boston College, the school that Cutter currently players for, but I don’t know much about any of that.
There was also a bunch of stuff about Cutter Gauthier not wanting to play for John Tortorella, which if that’s the excuse, then good riddance because Cutter was too soft to survive in Philly anyways.
Most likely, the reason is that Cutter wanted to leave college and join the Flyers earlier than what Danny Briere and company wanted. After his request was denied, this smug little prick threw a hissy fit and refused to entertain any conversations with the Flyers moving forward.
Note: “Cutter” isn’t even this dudes name. It’s William. Cutter is his middle name. Maybe he didn’t want to be called “Billy Goat”? For those struggling to make the connection Gauthier is pronounced Go-Tee-Aye.
Anyways, that led to last night, where the Flyers dealt him out of the city to rot in Anaheim. The good news, is that the return package for Gauthier looks pretty fucking good.
Introducing, Jamie Drysdale
The Anaheim Mighty Ducks selected defenseman Jamie Drysdale No. 6 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Drysdale, who has battled injuries throughout his young NHL career, has 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in 10 games with the Ducks this season.
So is that good for the Flyers? Lose an offensive threat and top 5 pick in Gauthier for a kid who’s battled injuries early in his career?
Fuck if I know but what I can tell you, getting a 21-year old right-handed defender that has a chance to be on the top defensive line for the Flyers for years to come sounds pretty fucking good to me.
Not to mention, the Flyers have four picks in the first two rounds this year, and got another second round pick in the trade for 2025. Mix in Drysdale who has tremendous upside and the Flyers will be just fine without a fucking dork like Gauthier, who by the looks of it, is nothing more than a 19-year old entitled little prick.
A Blessing in Disguise for the Philadelphia Flyers
I mean come on, when has there been this much buzz with the Flyers over the past decade? The organization just drew a line in the sand. You either want to be with the Flyers and give 100% to the team or you’re fucking out. Period.

This cornball should be treated like JD Drew as one of, if not the worst, Philadelphia sports enemy this city has ever seen. There should be a new episode of The Liberty Yell dropping later today and I’m sure Derek will have more on this entire saga too. We dropped some “Cutter the Traitor” t-shirts. If you don’t want this dorks face on a shirt, I understand, but we sold a shit ton last night so here ya go…
