Nick Sirianni responds to speculation that the Eagles overlooked teams down the stretch
Nick Sirianni’s team hasn’t looked right for about two months now. Ever since the blowout loss to San Francisco, the Eagles have looked like a team uninterested in even trying.
Earlier this week, tight end Dallas Goedert spoke to reporters and suggested the team may have overlooked the ‘easier’ teams down the stretch of their season. After the gauntlet through the midpoint of the season, the Eagles apparently just had their eyes on the postseason.
On Thursday, Nick Sirianni responded to those comments:
“Dallas said what he said,” Nick Sirianni told reporters. “And maybe that’s how he felt. He obviously said how he felt. I just know the guys have been consistent working. Nobody was satisfied with a playoff berth. I know that. It’s what it turned into, just a playoff berth, not an NFC [East] championship, not a No. 1 seed. It was a playoff berth.
“And I know nobody was satisfied with that, just like nobody is satisfied with where we’re sitting right now, like, we’re in the playoffs. We want to go out and win this week and see what happens. . . . They’re excited that we’re here in the playoffs. We obviously have waited a long time to be back into this spot. Not everybody gets to go to the playoffs for three years in a row or back-to-back years even.”

At the end of the day, if Goedert’s comments are true and the team didn’t really care down the stretch, that’s obviously a bad reflection on Sirianni. Nevertheless, if the team comes out Monday night and stomps the Buccaneers like they did back in Week 2, should we really care whether or not the team overlooked their final few opponents? Better yet, what if they end up reaching the NFC Championship game? I know that feels like an impossible task, but it’s only going to take two wins and boom, Nick Sirianni’s team will have reach the conference championship two years in a row.
I have a feeling the team is going to play pretty well on Monday and win. And depending on how the rest of Wildcard Weekend plays out, I think they have a good chance to win the following week as well.
I know I’m being very bias here and probably setting myself up for disappointment. I don’t really care, though.
