Man who delayed AFC Championship with a drone revealed to be Delco resident, faces 4 years in prison

A Delco man is in some serious legal trouble after flying his drone and delaying the AFC Championship Game. Hefty fines and jail time appear to be on the horizon, which is honestly hilarious considering how avoidable all of this was.

According to the Baltimore Sun, this guy faces up to four years in prison for the disruption at the AFC Championship Game:

A Pennsylvania man faces up to four years in federal prison and $350,000 in fines for allegedly flying a drone over M&T Bank Stadium during the first quarter of the AFC championship game last month.

NFL security temporarily suspended the game, and Maryland State Police tracked the movement of the drone from directly over the stadium to a landing spot about half a mile away, where FBI agents and state police located 44-year-old Matthew Hebert, of Chadds Ford, according to a news release.

Hebert told officers that in the past, the application he uses to operate the drone would not allow him to fly the device when flight restrictions are in place, and he was surprised when the application allowed him to operate the drone during the game, according to the affidavit. Hebert allegedly flew the drone approximately 100 meters or higher for around two minutes, taking six photos and possibly a video. He has not been arrested, according to the affidavit. Hebert was operating a DJI Mini 2 model advertised as an ultralight and foldable drone quadcopter currently on sale for nearly $400 by Amazon, according to the affidavit.

People from Delco are like rats; they’re everywhere. I was in New Orleans a few years back and sat down for a nice bowl of gumbo, and it turned out my waitress was from Media.

Another time, I was in a bar in Prague and saw a guy in an Eagles hat. I walked over and hit him with a Go Birds, and lo and behold, the dude was from Springfield. Needless to say, I’m not surprised a Delco guy was behind the AFC Championship delay.

You can’t escape Delco, you can only hope to contain it. Even if they do lock this guy up, I have a feeling he’ll break out Andy Dufresne style and regain his freedom.

Imagine being the guy locked up in federal prison because of this. I don’t know how your fellow inmates would welcome you. Flying a drone over the AFC Championship isn’t exactly the most respect-commanding crime someone can commit.
