Robin Lopez, traded by the Bucks and waived by the Kings, showed up to read a book at Fiserv Forum as Milwaukee lost to the T-Wolves 129-105

The Milwaukee Bucks traded Robin Lopez to the Sacramento Kings ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday. 

The Kings didn’t want anything to do with Lopez, and as a result, they waived him, which meant that he didn’t even have to hop on a flight out West to join what would have been his new teammates.

Lopez, now a free agent, could have literally done anything with his newfound free time, so how did he spend it?

Well, he showed up at Fiserv Forum to watch the Milwaukee Bucks lose to the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

Lopez was seen on the broadcast reading a book behind the scorer’s table.

Bucks are 1-5 since switching coaches and Robin Lopez, who they traded today, was reading a book while they got blown out at home.

There are two ways to look at this. The first is that it’s a lame thing to do, which is a perfectly valid argument. The second is that it’s a beautiful act of pettiness that can be executed by only the most determined haters.

There are a million better things to do than to watch Doc Rivers and the rest of the Bucks get their shit kicked in yet again by the T-Wolves. I’m not sure why you’d want to remain on that team in the first place.

That is, unless you’re so consumed by pettiness you’re there out of a sense of duty to your craft. That’s something I can respect and relate to.

If I was traded by a team for a bag of peanuts, only to get waived by the organization they sent me to, there’d be few things sweeter than being seated in the front row to personally witness their downfall. Robin Lopez reading the book adds another layer of pettiness I could only ever hope to achieve, effectively saying, “I hate you so much and pray for your downfall, but, in the end, it’s so pathetic that this book is more deserving of my attention.”

It’s like going to your ex’s wedding to watch her fiancé leave her at the altar, but when she spots you in the crowd, you’re intently reading a lovely novel instead of enjoying her demise. At least that’s the closest non-sports equivalent scenario I could think of.

It could also be the case that there are zero hard feelings and he’s just hanging out. But there are not many fun things to write about that possibility.

The Bucks are now 1-5 in the Doc Rivers Era. Good.

I will say this, the “reading in public” people are annoying anyway. Reading books should happen behind closed doors to hide your shame, you goddamn nerd.
