David Buchanan made 35 starts with the Phillies way back during the dark years of 2014 and 2015. He hasn’t pitched in Major League Baseball since 2015, but did have a few successful years in Japan and Korea since he left America.

After pitching in Japan from 2017-2019, Buchanan joined the KBO, posting a 54-28 record with a 3.02 ERA in roughly 700 innings over four seasons.

Buchanan will join the Phillies in Clearwater on a minor league contract and a non-roster invitee.

The Phillies also claimed reliever Kaleb Ort off waivers from the Marlins. Let’s just say Ort isn’t exactly a move to write home about. The 32-year old posted a 6.27 ERA in 47 appearances, all of which came as a member of the Boston Red Sox.

Ort will get a spot on the Phillies’ 40-man roster. In a corresponding move, infielder Diego Castillo was designated for assignment.

The final moves were somewhat good. After DFA’ing both Andrew Bellatti and outfielder Simon Muzziotti last week, they both cleared waivers and were outright to Triple A. Now, they’ll also join the Phillies as non-roster invitees in Spring Training.

Worth Noting: The Phillies are lacking major depth in the outfield and with Brandon Marsh sidelined 3-4 weeks after undergoing knee surgery last week, there’s a chance Muzziotti could get a look at the major league level pretty quick.

We’ll keep ya posted. The Fightins are back!
