Check It Out: Official proposal for the new downtown Kansas City Royals Ballpark looks incredible
Hell of a week for Kansas City. They just witnessed Patrick Mahomes and company win another Super Bowl and now the Royals, fresh off inking Bobby Witt Jr to a massive new contract are building a ridiculous new ballpark in downtown KC.

After the initial renderings of a new Kansas City Royals ballpark proposal hit the internet over the past few months, this week an official proposal and exact location of the ballpark were issued and all things considered, it’s looking incredible.
Kansas City Royals Ballpark Proposal
[The Ballpark District] is a next-generation baseball experience will celebrate our city through a combination of innovative ballpark design and authentic connections to what makes Kansas Citians thrilled to call the city home.
A proposed extension of the South Loop Park and the P&L Park Link Pedestrian Bridge connect the stadium to numerous beloved areas of the city. Additionally, the KC Street Car Kauffman Center Stop two blocks west of the stadium. Our goal is to create easy access and simple navigation while connecting fans to existing infrastructure.
The proven success of ballpark-adject districts often sees the area become a staple public destination throughout the entire calendar year, well beyond the 81+ days home games are played. [KC Website]
Sign me the hell up, Kansas City
The Liberty Line was lucky enough to travel with Phans of Philly to KC back in November and while the weather wasn’t great on that trip, the Eagles walked away with a win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead on Monday Night Football.
The city itself is fantastic and adding a new district for a new Royals ballpark is exciting.
Meanwhile in Philly…: We are currently dealing with Comcast’s reign of terror over the Wells Fargo Center and Josh Harris fighting with pretty much everyone while trying to build a new Philadelphia 76ers arena next to Chinatown. Brutal.
In Kansas City? They’re cracking jokes…
Royals owner John Sherman had this to say about the new ballpark proposal.
John Sherman congratulates the Chiefs and Royals minority investor Patrick Mahomes: “I know he’s more well-known for his day job, but we appreciate him, too.”
Sherman’s got jokes: He lists off major events at Truman Sports Complex since the last lease agreement in 2006 — an MLB All-Star Game, AFC title games, two World Series, etc.
“And two Taylor Swift concerts, which is probably most important.”
New Trend: Small(er) Capacity Sports Venues
One detail I really enjoy about this ballpark is the fact that it only seats 34,000 fans.
In comparison, Citizens Bank Park here in Philly holds 42,901.
Don’t get me wrong, CBP outside of PNC Park in Pittsburgh is the second best ballpark in Major League Baseball, but having a smaller capacity park means an increased chance that it’s packed to the brim night in and night out for the Royals.
The Kansas City Royals want this built and ready for Opening Day 2028. By then, Patrick Mahomes will probably have two handfuls full of Super Bowl rings while throwing out the first pitch to MVP Bobby Witt Jr as the Royals look to continue their dominance in the American League Central.
Just make sure there’s a slight adjustment in the new ballpark plans and we have some resemblance of the Crown Scoreboard and this is a total no-brainer for Kansas City fans.
