Anthony Edwards promised to shoot left-handed during All-Star weekend, and the results haven’t been great so far

On Friday night, Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star told the media that he planned to shoot left-handed all weekend in Indianapolis.

Edwards was interviewed during NBA All-Star Saturday Night festivities at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indy. He was asked about what his main goal was for the weekend ahead, and his response was that he planned on going “fully left-handed” during the events and game on Sunday night.

“I’m going to just try left hand,” said the right-handed Edwards. “I’m going to shoot it left-handed the entire game.”

Credit Anthony Edwards. It’s all about commitment, and he didn’t sway from his plan on shooting lefty throughout NBA All-Star Weekend. That said, the Ant-Man participated in the NBA Skills Competition and bricked all of his three corner 3-point attempts while shooting with his left.

Pacers and Celtics legend Larry Bird infamously dominated a 1986-87 regular season game while shooting several shots left-handed. No confirmation on whether or not Edwards decided to go lefty in honor of Bird, but we’ll see what tonight’s game brings.

Based on what I’m seeing, though, Anthony Edwards doesn’t quite have the same level of skill as Larry Bird does. Commitment to the bit is important, don’t get me wrong, but if you’re actually trash with your left hand, it’s a lot less cool to try and shoot with it during the All-Star Game.

I like Ant, but the more I think about it, the less funny this bit is. You got here by being one of the best players in the NBA. Fans came from all over and spent good money just to see you and the other All-Stars play. The least you could do is take it a little bit seriously.

Again, it’d be one thing if he was good with the left. But he’s not. It feels like hubris has taken over Ant in this moment. He’s flown too close to the sun and is going to look like a jackass if he can’t hit a single lefty shot on national TV. It’ll look even worse if he switches to his right to save face.
