NFL Draft: Eagles scheduled to meet with LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Scouting Combine

It’s officially NFL Combine week as teams prepare to get closer looks at potential franchise cornerstones.

The Eagles have several roster needs heading into the offseason, most notably at linebacker. GM Howie Roseman has historically undervalued the position, but that could be changing in 2024.

According to sources, the Eagles have a formal meeting scheduled with Clemson star LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the Scouting Combine.

“I think maybe there are some preconceived notions that at the linebacker position, that we don’t care who we play at linebacker,” Roseman stated in January. “Again, our two Super Bowl teams over the last six years, the linebacker play was good from those guys.”

Philadelphia’s starting linebackers from their Super Bowl run in 2022, TJ Edwards and Kyzir White, both walked in free agency last year. Second-year player Nakobe Dean was the next man up but suffered multiple foot injuries throughout the year.

Veterans Zach Cunningham and Nicholas Morrow filled in with lackluster results, leaving Philadelphia with minimal talent over the middle. Trotter Jr., son of former Eagles LB Jeremiah Trotter, could be a foundational piece for Philly’s defense.

“Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enters the NFL Draft after a well-decorated career at Clemson. Trotter Jr. stamped himself as a defensive playmaker, recording 202 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 13 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and four interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns).

Trotter Jr. is a high-instinct player who uses this trait to make plays in both the run game and pass coverage.”

NFL Scouting Combine Live Drills begins Thursday, February 29th, with exclusive live coverage on NFL Network starting at 3 PM EST.
