Eagles Rumors: QB Justin Fields linked to Philadelphia in trade talks
Over the first two days of NFL free agency, we’ve now heard multiple NFL insiders mention the Philadelphia Eagles in relation to Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
The expectation heading into the offseason was that Fields would get traded to a team that needed a starting quarterback. Now that the QB market has settled a bit, with Atlanta and Pittsburgh finding their guys for 2024, the Fields market seems to have evaporated.
Unless, Chicago is willing to take significantly less in a trade for Fields and Fields is willing to take on a backup quarterback role. If both turn out to be true, the Eagles could come knocking.
The Eagles-Fields rumors started on Monday.
Daniel Jeremiah thinks the Eagles could be interested
We got another interesting tidbit from Albert Breer with his appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. Although he doesn’t suggest that the Eagles are interested, he does name them as a team that could come calling for Fields as their backup.

While having a quarterback like Fields backup Jalen Hurts does make a lot of sense on paper, I’m not sure it makes a ton of sense long-term. Like Breer says, Fields only has one more year remaining on his rookie deal. If the Eagles wanted to keep him past 2024, they’d either have to resign him now or exercise his fifth-year option, which would cost upwards of $25 million for the 2025 season.
Essentially, the Eagles would get an exciting backup QB for one year and then let him walk for nothing. I don’t see the value in doing that. Personally, I’d rather just bring in someone very cheap or draft a guy and hold an open competition for the QB2 spot with Tanner McKee.
But as we know, Howie loves his QB Factory. Bringing in Fields wouldn’t be that our of the ordinary for this team.
