Report: Eagles offered contract to QB Joe Flacco before he signed elsewhere

With Marcus Mariota leaving for Washington, the Eagles find themselves in the market for a new QB2.

They reportedly offered a contract to a familiar face during free agency — the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year, Joe Flacco.

Flacco, heading into his 17th season, had a brief stint in Philadelphia in 2021 before being traded to the Jets. Jalen Hurts gained valuable knowledge from Flacco during their short time together, and it’s clear the Eagles are prioritizing securing an experienced backup.

Hurts played much of the 2023 season banged up and missed time in each of the two seasons prior. Considering Hurts’ play style and Philadelphia’s title aspirations, QB2 is critical for GM Howie Roseman.

Available names that could draw interest include Easton Stick, Tyler Huntley, Josh Dobbs, and *ducks* Justin Fields.

Huntley would be the ideal option. He has nine starts under his belt, including a playoff game, and has backed up Lamar Jackson for the past four seasons. Huntley is an effective runner when plays break down, so Kellen Moore wouldn’t have to reconstruct the playbook if Hurts gets injured.

Easton Stick is also a realistic possibility, having played under Moore last year with the Chargers.
