WATCH: Saquon Barkley tried to lure Jason Kelce out of retirement on ‘New Heights’

Freshly minted Eagle Saquon Barkley continued his welcome tour by making an appearance on freshly retired Eagle Jason Kelce’s podcast New Heights. While the full episode hasn’t been released yet, a pretty telling clip dropped on Twitter earlier today.

Saquon Barkley laid the groundwork for Jason Kelce to return to the Eagles on the most recent episode of the podcast:

Both of these guys are in ridiculously bittersweet spots. Barkley is joining a perennial NFC contender with the best offensive line in football but was only able to sign after the team’s Hall of Fame center retired.

Meanwhile, Kelce called it a career to spend time with his growing family but did so right before one of the most electric running backs in the NFL joined his team. God, that is sweet, sweet irony, isn’t it?

But, as Saquon said, it doesn’t have to be. And if he’s saying this on the podcast as the new guy, I’m sure guys throughout the Eagles locker room are in Kelce’s ear trying to get him back in the mix.

It may always come off as a joke, but every Eagle probably wishes he was still playing. And I couldn’t blame them if I tried. And I can blame a professional athlete for pretty much anything, up to and including my failure to develop into a functioning adult despite my loved ones’ best efforts.

Thanks a lot, Dion Waiters. (Don’t ask.)

Anyway, it would be one of the most Jason Kelce things of all time if he unretired right before training camp. That’s what being a Football Guy is all about, and he’s lived it the last 13 years of his pro career with vigor.

That being said, it would probably be better if he stays retired. I know he’d still probably have a great season and remain the best center in football, but he walked away at the right time.

Then again… what’s one more year?

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
