Flyers News: Ivan Fedotov’s contract terminated by CSKA, set to travel to Philadelphia

After just one season, CSKA has decided to terminate Ivan Fedotov’s contract, making him a free agent.

Fedotov is a 7th-round pick in 2019 (188th overall)

Now, the Flyers still hold his NHL rights (one year left and will be a UFA next year) if he plans to come to North America but he would need a visa to come over.

Fedotov played 44 games this year for CSKA. He had a 2.37 GAA and a .914 SV%.

This is especially surprising given the drama that Flyers fans had to endure this summer.

It finished with the IIHF ruling in favor of the Flyers having a valid contract and CSKA saying, “Hey, we don’t agree with this ruling so yeah, he’s staying here”

It’s weird to go through all of that drama only to terminate the guy’s contract after the first year?

What does this mean for PHI?

As I said, he still has a valid contract with us (1 year left until UFA status) and would need a visa, but the Flyers do hold his current NHL rights.

Will he sign with another KHL team or make the trip over to NA? That’s to be seen but the fact that a trip over here is even back in the card is positive news for the Flyers.

With Ersson being thrown into the fire after the Carter Hart situation broke and Sandstrom looking pretty overwhelmed in all but one of his starts, I’ll (and I’m sure the front office) take this good news.

Update: Alex Appleyard on X is now reporting that Russian outlets are saying Fedotov is coming to the NHL.

Kevin Weekes on X has added that the NHL would have to lift the suspension on his 1-year ELC deal before he could play. But added, all of that will be addressed publicly soon.

Stay. Tuned.
