PJ Tucker calls out NBA fans for ‘excessive heckling’ over sports betting
In a recent article from The Athletic titled “New scene at NBA games: Fans screaming at players about their losing bets” David Aldrige spoke with NBA players, including PJ Tucker, about sports betting and the negative impact it’s had on fan interaction.
PJ Tucker on fans ‘excessive heckling‘ over sports betting
“It’s getting outrageous,” said PJ Tucker through The Athletic. “It’s getting kind of crazy. Even in the arenas, hearing fans yelling at guys about their bets. It’s unreal. It’s a problem. I think it’s something that’s got to be addressed.”
PJ Tucker
Okay a few things on PJ Tucker’s comments. First, Tucker is 38-years old and the second oldest player in the NBA behind LeBron James. Since the 76ers dealt him to Los Angeles as a part of the James Harden trade, Tucker has barely seen the floor.
That obviously raised question as to why a guy with a current net worth of $30 million is mad about sports betting, when he’s rich and completely washed?
Maybe just stay out of it? I don’t know. Let’s just agree that PJ Tucker wouldn’t even be considered to be a leg in the most degenerate gambler’s parlay.
If you have Tucker as a leg in any type of parlay or are just betting him straight up, then you’re most likely in too deep already and cannot be saved.
Stop it and seek help immediately – it’s officially time to call the hotline.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that sports betting hasn’t gotten out of hand.
When paired with social media and live sporting events, I’m sure there are plenty of psychos out there that lose a bet and say ruthless, horrible, things at professional athletes at live sporting events and on social media.
The issue here is that PJ Tucker is “calling out fans” because of it and not looking at the his employers, the NBA and whatever team is raking in cash off sports book advertising and promotions.
Blame the fans all you want. I’m sure in most instances, their behavior is out of line. However, looking specifically at the Philadelphia 76ers, it’s easy to understand why people are so invested (and emotional) when it comes to sports betting.
Philadelphia 76ers Sportsbook Partnerships:
The Wells Fargo Center unveiled a new premium area for selected ticketholders known as the “Center City Club”, and—as part of a partnership with Rivers Casino Philadelphia—two sportsbook lounges open to all visitors, which feature a bar and seating areas, televisions and odds boards, and Rivers Casino ambassadors promoting use of the casino’s sports betting app.
Betway signage is displayed throughout The Wells Fargo Center during locally televised 76ers regular-season home games, including visibility on 52-square foot Court Aprons, Courtside LEDs and game-clocks throughout the games.

In October 2023, the Philadelphia 76ers announced the renewal of its strategic partnership agreement with BetMGM Sportsbook. Under the agreement, BetMGM continues as an Official Sports Betting Partner of the team. The multi-year extension includes the addition of BetMGM VIP fan experiences and watch parties, in-market odds boosts, and increased courtside signage at Wells Fargo Center.
DraftKings is now the exclusive and Official Daily Fantasy Partner – and a sportsbook and online casino partner – of the Philadelphia 76ers. As part of the partnership, along with traditional marketing and promotional opportunities, DraftKings will offer VIPs a “Court of Dreams” excursion allowing them an all-access, inside look at the 76ers’ training complex, in addition to season tickets and suites for hospitality and promotional use.
At the start of the 2023 NBA season, FanDuel Sportsbook customers who placed a $5 bet received three complimentary months of NBA League Pass and $200 in Bonus Bets. Existing customers who bet $5 on the NBA also received three complimentary months of NBA League Pass, which gave fans to watch and wager live on all out-of-market games.
Parx Casino and betPARX are the Official Banner Partners of the Philadelphia 76ers. Parx Casino is the Official Local Casino of the 76ers while betPARX is the Official Winning Partner of the team, providing fans the ultimate 76ers gameday experience.
In 2022, the Philadelphia 76ers partnered with NBC Sports Philadelphia with PointsBet Sportsbook (now Fanatics) to present a series of sports-betting presentations – titled BetCast – covering the Philadelphia 76ers.
In the past, FOX Bet and the Philadelphia 76ers announced that they were partnering up for the first deal between an NBA franchise and a mobile sports betting brand.
Billboards, commercials, in-game advertising and promotions, you name it. If players want to complain about fan interaction while refusing to take aim at the NBA and franchise owners, then I honestly don’t want to hear it.
Sports books have infiltrated professional sports on every possible level so please, spare me that this is a “fan issue” while billionaire owners and operators line their pockets while shoving their product down the throats of fans on a second-by-second basis.
