Report: Eagles GM Howie Roseman is looking to move up in first-round of 2024 NFL Draft

It’s officially NFL Draft week, which means it’s also time for Eagles GM Howie Roseman to cook.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Howie is already in the kitchen whipping something up, making calls to see how much it’ll take to move up in the first-round.

The Eagles currently hold the No. 22 overall selection. As we know, Howie hasn’t done a great job drafting in that range, snagging a handful of duds over the years. The bust list includes the likes of Jalen Reagor, Andre Dillard, and Marcus Smith.

He’s much better at evaluating the talent at the top of the draft, specifically in the top-15. The Eagles have come away with several key starters with selections in that range, including DeVonta Smith, Jalen Carter, Lane Johnson, and Brandon Graham.

The real question is, who exactly is Howie targeting with a trade-up?

I’d have to assume it would be a cornerback, simply based on the lack of top-tier talent at that position in this year’s class. The team could select an offensive lineman almost anywhere during the draft and turn him into a solid depth piece at the very least, thanks in large part to Jeff Stoutland. As for defensive line or linebacker, trading up three years in a row for a defensive lineman seems like overkill, and trading up for a linebacker just isn’t plausible with this year’s crop of talent.

With the NFL Draft just a few days away, we’ll find out what Howie and the Eagles are scheming soon enough.
