Eagles continue to solidify their secondary by trading up for Iowa’s Cooper DeJean

Howie strikes again by trading up to double down on secondary depth with Iowa’s versatile DB Cooper DeJean. The Eagles sent picks 50, 53, and 161 to divisional foe Washington for the 40th pick, 78, and 152.

New No Fly Zone: Quinyon Mitchell & Cooper DeJean

After landing Quinyon Mitchell in the first round of the draft, Howie targeted his guy in this second round and executed a trade to get another Top-Five defensive back. Many experts had Cooper DeJean going in the first round, given his versatility to play both the outside and inside at cornerback and his experience in the box at safety.

Fangio loves to run a diverse zone scheme, and a player like Cooper DeJean fits like a glove into this defense. He’s considered one of the best overall athletes in this year’s draft and can help in the return game as well. Cooper DeJean carries a high football IQ, pre- and post-snap, and a willingness to help in the run game. It’s another home run pick by Howie Roseman, who’s solidifying a secondary that stumbled throughout the season.

With Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean potentially making immediate impacts, the question remains: what will happen to James Bradberry?
