Greg Amsinger’s ‘No-Hitter Watch’ for Yoshinobu Yamamoto lasted exactly 1 pitch against the Marlins

Well, that escalated quickly. Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been dealing this season since settling into the majors and took the mound tonight against the Miami Marlins, who, for lack of a better term, absolutely blow.

MLB Network commentator Greg Amsinger took this into consideration and issued a “No-Hitter Alert” for Yoshinoby Yamamoto… which was quickly put to an end by a Jazz Chisholm home run on the first pitch of the game:

"Don't take this the wrong way, but we are already on no-hitter alert. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, before he throws a single pitch tonight against the Marlins."

I know people say jinxes in sports aren’t real, and that’s true for the most part. Drinking your beer with your left hand while watching the game at home or something like that doesn’t have an effect on the game. Everything you see on the screen already happened seconds before it made its way to your eyeballs.

That being said, the announcer jinx is 100% real. We get proof of this time and time again, but this instance from Amsinger could not have made it more clear.

If anything, this might be all the proof I need that there’s a higher power lording over us mere mortals. Amsinger’s hubris was smote instantly by one swing of the bat.

I get where he was coming from on this one though. Yamamoto had hurled 15 consecutive scoreless innings heading into this contest and, like I said, the Marlin are downright awful.

But that’s the beauty of baseball. Anything can happen.
