Numbers Don’t Lie: Bryce Harper rakes on Phillies BOGO Dog Nights

The Philadelphia Phillies are the hottest team in baseball, and it’s not particularly close. Leading the charge is franchise talisman Bryce Harper, who has been lights out for much of this season.

A lot has been said about his situational hitting. Hell, he’s the league in OPS with two outs and runners in scoring position since he signed with Philly. But there’s another statistical anomaly that shows how no moment is too big for Harper: his stats on Phillies BOGO Dog Nights

Bryce Harper has feasted at the plate during the first three BOGO Dog Nights:

First off, I’d like to apologize for that pun… to absolutely nobody. Without a doubt some of my best work in any area of my life.

But it pales in comparison to what Harper has done at the dish on the holiest of days of the baseball season. Phillies fans mourned the loss of Dollar Dog Night, and for good reason, but if he keeps hitting like this on BOGO Dog Night, I don’t think fans will miss it for much longer.

11 trips to the plate, 8 hits, 5 of which were homers for a .727 average is bananas, even with a small sample size.

Sure, $2.50 per dog isn’t as good a deal as $1 per dog, but if you’re basically guaranteed to see a Bryce Bomb in person, that’s worth the price of admission on its own.

Bryce Harper is already one of the hottest hitters in the game, but there’s something about discounted glizzies that activates something deep within him. Something primal, encoded in his DNA thousands of years ago by prehuman ancestors, unlocks another level of strength and focus not seen since the time of the Wooly Mammoth.

It also helps that it’s come mostly against terrible teams, but the Blue Jays pitcher led the league in ERA before Harper saw a pitch from him over the plate.

Circle the next BOGO Dog Night on your calendar, folks. Fireworks are guaranteed.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
