Evan Turner says Paul George has a ‘history of not showing up’, believes George and Joel Embiid would be ‘soft’
During the latest episode of the “Point Forward” podcast, former NBA players and ex-76ers’ Evan Turner and Andre Iguodala discussed how well certain superstars would fit if those players went back to their former teams.
That brought up Paul George returning to the Indiana Pacers.
While on the subject, Evan Turner commented on the idea of Paul George joining the Philadelphia 76ers and teaming up with Joel Embiid. Turner wasn’t a fan of the idea and considered the potential pairing ‘soft’.
Evan Turner believes Paul George and Joel Embiid would be ‘soft’ together
“I’m just saying because that’s the only best option because P.G. has a history of not showing up, which is an understatement,” Turner said. “I’ve never met a human that would let a media rumor drive his, like, energy or personality. Somebody was like, ‘I heard he going to Philly,’ and that n—- was like, ‘You know what, I’m going to Philly, G.’
“You know how soft that team gonna be if him and (Joel) Embiid go together? It’d probably be the most skilled duo ever since Kobe and Shaq. Embiid would be hurt and P.G. gonna be Paul, though.”
Man, I never thought I would see the day where Evan Turner was talking about another NBA basketball player and suggesting they are soft and chokers but here we are…
This dude was a No. 2 overall draft pick and was a total bust. The fact that he even has a platform to speak on actual stars in the NBA is puzzling.
Side Note: The 2010 NBA Draft was BRUTAL

While I certainly don’t like the messenger, Turner did play nearly 10-years in the NBA and Paul George is in fact a perennial loser that has proven on multiple occasions that he doesn’t have what it takes to “carry a team”.
Does Paul George choke in the playoffs? I’m not sure there’s a definitive answer there. We witnessed him put the Clippers on his back in 2021 without Kawhi and carry the them to the Western Conference Finals.
At the same time, there are also many games where he turns into Tobias Harris and forgets he’s supposed to be a leader and a scorer. The 7-point effort in the playoffs this year against the Mavericks is proof of that.
And no, I’m not saying that he would need to be “the guy” in Philadelphia, but I would much rather look elsewhere in the search for a third “star” next to Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.
Paul George hasn’t won anything and at 34-years old, I am against the Philadelphia 76ers giving him a max contract. I know the options are limited in free agency but I would rather the Sixers focus their attention elsewhere.
Here’s the potential problems with the players rumored to be linked with the Philadelphia 76ers this summer…
Paul George hasn’t won anything and continues to prove that he’s a perennial loser in the playoffs.
Kevin Durant will almost certainly ruin the 76ers ability to add pieces for the future.
LeBron James is laser-focused on playing basketball with his son and at this point, it seems very unlikely to come to Philadelphia.
The 76ers already had their chance Jimmy Butler and completely mishandled it. Now, Jimmy is an aging player that’s unhappy in Miami and looking for a way out. No thank you.
That brings me to Brandon Ingram, who is only 26 years old and coming off a season where averaged 20 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
The Pelicans made the playoffs this season and I can’t help but think that Ingram alongside Embiid and Maxey will shine even brighter in Philadelphia.
Regardless of all the information above, I really don’t have faith in Daryl Morey to deliver and correctly build around Embiid and Maxey so it will be interesting to see what steps he takes to avoid yet another failed attempt at basic roster construction.
