Family sues LaMelo ball for allegedly running over 11-year-old son’s foot
LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets aren’t in these NBA Playoffs, but the young guard is still making headlines. A family has filed a lawsuit against him for allegedly running over an 11-year-old’s foot when leaving the Spectrum Center after a game, breaking the foot in the process.
WSOC Charlotte reported on the family’s pending lawsuit against LaMelo Ball:
An 11-year-old was waiting outside the Spectrum Center after the Hornets' Purple and Teal Day. He wanted an autograph from LaMelo Ball

His mom says Ball didn't sign anything. He sped off in his car and drove over the 11-year-old's foot, breaking it.

Jinkies. That’s a pretty serious accusation to levy against someone, but, based on the story, they wouldn’t have filed this if they weren’t confident they’d get a favorable ruling.
The family is suing the Hornets as well. Since the incident occurred during their Purple and Teal Day where fans are meant to interact more closely with the players, they maintain that the franchise should have had more protective measures in place.
I’m going to withhold a full judgment until all of the information becomes public. That being said, if there was an NBA player that could have done this, it’d be LaMelo Ball.
I’m not saying he’s a bad guy or anything like that. But there’s literally a compilation of him peeling out of the Spectrum Center parking lot in a dangerous fashion on multiple occasions.

Now, obviously, there are a lot of questions that need answering here. The biggest being how was the kid close enough to the car/exit to get his foot run over in the first place?
Based on the video, there doesn’t seem to be much of a barricade blocking off the exit. Maybe the
But at the same time, how do you let your pre-teen child approach a moving vehicle? I’m not ready to point the finger at LaMelo Ball and call him a villain just yet.
Sure, reckless driving like in this video compilation is one of the most irresponsible and dangerous things a person can do, in my opinion. I just think there’s a combination of stupidity from all parties involved here.
That’s not to blame the kid, he’s 11 for crying out loud. He saw an opportunity to get an autograph from his hero and took it.
I definitely don’t disagree with the family saying the Hornets should have had more protective measures in place. If you have a day for fans to specifically interact with players, you need some clear-cut rules and areas to do so. At the same time, though, maybe the family shouldn’t let their kid run up to a supercar getting ready to pull out of a parking lot.
