Eagles DC Vic Fangio receives scathing remarks from Jevon Holland

After Vic Fango left Miami to become the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator, multiple reports surfaced about Fangio’s time with the Dolphins — painting him as an old school coach who rubbed new school players the wrong way.

We’re still in the infant stages of Fangio’s tenure in Philadelphia, but so far, so good. Eagles players have had nothing but good things to say about Fangio thus far.

That doesn’t mean the players down in Miami are done talking about him, though. Pro Bowl safety Jevon Holland was asked about the biggest difference between Fangio and Miami’s current DC, Anthony Weaver, during OTAs.

“It’s the fact that [Weaver] is a good person, that makes a difference,” Holland said.

Yikes. Pretty scathing remarks from Holland here. Looking at Fangio’s work over the years, we’ve never heard this level of criticism from his former players until now. Typically, they all rave about him and how smart he is.

We obviously don’t know about everything that went down during Fangio’s stay in Miami, but this seems to be more of a personal issue than anything else. Miami was 10th in total yards allowed last season, so it’s hard to argue that Fangio didn’t have an impact. And at the end of the day, you’re not in the NFL to make friends — you’re in the NFL to win football games and play at the highest level possible.

Fangio being a tough coach is a good thing; don’t let this kind of nonsense fool you. Holland is a good player in his own right, but that doesn’t mean he’s above low-blow criticism. Fangio could have just challenged Holland to be better, and maybe Holland scoffed it off. It really could be as simple as that.

The Eagles trust Fangio for a reason. They’ll be just fine under his leadership.
