Eagles News: Vic Fangio making strong impression in Philadelphia
After having the No. 1 pass defense in 2022, the Eagles struggled mightily last season under first-time defensive coordinator Sean Desai.
Their lackluster pass coverage contributed to a historic collapse down the stretch, a blowout loss in the Wild Card, and Sean Desai’s eventual dismissal.
Philadelphia has since hired Vic Fangio to right the ship and players have raved about his coaching thus far, despite how former players may feel about him.
Fangio has recently been criticized by members of the Dolphins after his one lone year in Miami, but current Eagles players appear to view him differently.
“I don’t know what they had over there [in Miami]. But over here, he’s a great dude,” said Darius Slay when asked about Fangio. “I heard great things about him because I used to watch like Aqib Talib and all them corners that used to play under his system. They always talked very highly of him.”
Dolphins safety Jevon Holland has recently stated that Anthony Weaver, his current DC in Miami, is a ‘complete 180’ from Fangio’s methods.
Additionally, Dolphins players were reportedly “more interested in living the Miami lifestyle than putting in the work,” hence the disconnect between Vic Fangio and the players.
“Guys like to party at night and South Beach is really a great place to party… those were the guys that Vic was pushing, and they’re the guys that are whining right now.” — Ron Jaworski
Regardless of how people felt about him, Vic Fangio’s defense was ranked 10th in yards allowed per game last season. Some players prefer a personal bond with their coaches, but I’ll take hard coaching over friendship any day.
