JT Realmuto put his body on the line

WATCH: JT Realmuto takes pitch to the nuts, shot to the head in gutsy performance

What a night for the best catcher in baseball. The Phillies managed to record a win in extra-innings, and JT Realmuto’s toughness was key to pulling out the victory in multiple moments.

JT Realmuto put his body on the line for this win, starting with a foul tip directly to his nuts:

TMac and Kruk thought Realmuto was going to exit the game as he was down on the ground for a considerable amount of time. But, in typical JT fashion, he got up and stayed behind home plate.

And thank god he did.

JT was instrumental in saving a run at the plate in the top of the 10th inning. Stott’s throw took him into the baserunner a bit, resulting in a collision and a shot to the head. Even so, he hung on, and the run at the plate was saved to keep the game tied.

Jesus Christ. How was this guy still standing after 10 innings?

After this tough-as-nails performance from JT Realmuto, John Kruk summed it up perfectly: “He’s Darren Daulton.”

Nick Castellanos may have had the glory with the walk-off base hit to win it, but he did nothing but shower praise on JT. He rightly called him the toughest player in baseball, as well as the backbone of the team. Which is exactly what you need from the best catcher in the game.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
