Shocker: Jaylen Brown saves Jayson Tatum yet again in Game 3 as Celtics take a 3-0 series lead over the Mavericks
I sound like broken record at this point. For YEARS, I’ve been arguing with my couch trying to wake basketball fans up to the fact that Jaylen Brown is the best player on the Boston Celtics roster.
I understand that the point itself will fall upon deaf ears here in Philadelphia and honestly, I don’t blame you for not caring about it but at the same time, annoying Celtics fans and the national media continue to be the bane of my existence and last night’s Game 3 was just further proof that Brown reigns supreme in Boston.
Last night’s 106-99 win for the Boston Celtics gave them a 3-0 lead against the Mavericks. Jayson Tatum finally had a good game after playing like complete garbage the first two games of the series.
Before we dive into it – here’s a quick overview of Tatum vs Brown over the first three games.
Jayson Tatum – NBA Finals
- Game 1: 16 PTS, 11 REB, 5 AST, 6-18 FG
- Game 2: 18 PTS, 9 REB, 12 AST, 6-22 FG
- Game 3: 31 PTS, 6 REB, 5 AST, 11-26 FG
Jaylen Brown – NBA Finals
- Game 1: 22 PTS, 6 REB, 2 AST, 7-12 FG
- Game 2: 21 PTS, 4 REB, 7 AST, 8-15 FG
- Game 3: 30 PTS, 8 REB, 8 AST, 12-22 FG
The Mavericks almost made the NBA Finals watchable. With just over a minute left in the fourth quarter and down just two points, they had Boston on the ropes before Jaylen Brown hit a dagger from the mid-range to hand his Celtics a 3-0 lead.

The Boston Celtics have managed to survive Jayson Tatum having bad nights because of Jaylen Brown and the players surrounding him. The Mavericks’ two-man show featuring Kyrie Irving and a gassed/injured Luka Doncic are simply no match for the Celtics – who somehow managed to blow a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter last night to even make it a “respectable” loss for Dallas.
What happened in the fourth quarter? Well, the usual for the Celtics.
In shocking news to absolutely no one, Tatum settled for poor shots and had the offense looking stale, paired with a few bad turnovers. Like clockwork, Jaylen Brown was there to bail him out yet again – highlighted by the mid-range dagger you just watched above.
Game 4 is tomorrow night in Dallas and honestly, even while being a massive NBA basketball fan, I’m hoping that Brown and the Celtics bury the Mavericks so we can all move into the offseason after one of the most boring NBA Finals in recent memory.
